The Congress, disrupting the proceedings in the state assembly today, staged a walkout over the burning of residence of UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi here last month. The Congress MLAs, amid slogan shouting, also trooped into the well of House. Raising the issue through an adjournment motion in the House, the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Pramod Tiwari directly accused the BSP government of hatching a conspiracy to burn Joshi’s house in Lucknow after her allegedly objectionable comments against Chief Minister Mayawati in Moradabad. “It was state-sponsored terrorism”, Tiwari said, adding the government should order CBI inquiry into the case. He said the CBCID investigation was just an eyewash, Tiwari said.
As the pandemonium continued the Speaker adjourned the House for 35 minutes. The CLP leader said the SP (east) Lucknow and Circle Officer (Hazratganj) led the BSP leaders who put Joshi’s house on fire. Tiwari also tabled several pictures of the incident, which showed police officers moving with rioters. Tiwari said one of the accused BSP leader Intezar Abidi was later awarded with chairmanship of Sugar federation and was given rank of minister of state. The Congress MLAs raising slogans in the well of the House also did not allow the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Lalji Verma to reply on motion. Verma accused the Congress of plotting to put Joshi’s house on fire and later blaming the government. He said instead of sacking Rita Bahuguna from party for objectionable remarks, the Congress leaders had been hailing her. Verma said action would be taken against accused after probe.
